Shrewsbury Optometry was one of the first practices in Shrewsbury to offer OCT technology.
This is the next generation in imaging internal structures of the eye.
The OCT is a special scanner that can be imagined as an ‘optical ultrasound’ producing incredible 3D images of the inside of your eye.
Using this technology, we are actually able to see beneath the surface of the retina, which has a profound importance in picking up eye diseases such as macular degeneration.
In addition, it enables us to record with incredible accuracy the thickness of the delicate nerve fibres that make up your optic nerve, allowing us to detect diseases such as glaucoma and other eye conditions. Even certain brain tumours that can damage the optic nerve fibres on their path to the visual cortex can be detected with the aid of this technology.
